The director of public works shall administer the operation of the public works department. The duties of the director of public works are as detailed, but not confined to those contained in, the job description on file in the office of the city clerk and may be updated from time to time. In the event of a vacancy in the office of the director of public works, the duties and responsibilities of the public works director shall be assumed by the mayor or his/her designee. The office of director of public works may, in whole or in part, be administratively combined with any other appointive position(s) in the city; provided, that when combined, the compensation shall be fixed by the city council for the combined office and shall not necessarily be the total of the compensation fixed for each office individually.
