A. The fire marshal directs and conducts inspections of all commercial buildings, hospitals, schools, rest homes and private dwellings when requested. After inspections, the fire marshal writes or directs letters to be written to the parties responsible, informing them of fire hazards or infractions of the city codes. The fire marshal enforces all fire codes of the city pertaining to the safety of life and property. The fire marshal directs investigations of all fires of suspicious nature or unknown origin. The fire marshal preserves evidence, works with the police, sheriff or other law enforcement agency, as well as the prosecutor and the city attorney.

B. The fire marshal shall maintain all necessary records and reports. The fire marshal shall assist the chief of police with any records and paperwork as required and decisions for administrating the department. The fire marshal shall conduct fire prevention programs in the schools or for any other civic, private or interested group. He shall handle any fire prevention publicity for the city with the newspapers, radio or television media.

C. The fire marshal shall answer any questions and help solve any problems which may arise pertaining to fire prevention and shall give instructions, correct errors, maintain good communication between subordinates and higher supervision and devote attention to the development of his own supervisory skills. The fire marshal shall drive a vehicle and possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and perform related work as required. (Ord. 543 § 2, 1985).
